Biography – Pastor Rick Hum
Pastor Rick was reared in a military family, born in Alaska and travelled the world, graduating high school from Hong Kong International School. He attended the University of California at Berkeley (UCB), where in 1970, as a freshman, he became a Christian through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. While a student, he also served on the Master Action Group Leadership Team and as the part-time youth pastor at the El Sobrante Evangelical Free Church. He graduated from UCB with a degree in Biology in 1973, audited the internship program under Ray Stedman at Peninsula Bible Church, Palo Alto and entered Talbot Theological Seminary (BIOLA University, La Mirada,CA). He met and married his wife of 40 years, Gretchen, in 1976. He graduated with an M.Div degree (Practical Theology) and was ordained as a pastor in the Evangelical Free Church in 1978, serving as a US Air Force chaplain. This ministry took him around the U.S. and the Philippine Islands and England. He served at all levels of the USAF Chaplaincy including Senior Pastor of multi-staff chapels for 5 bases, Senior AF Chaplain at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington DC and Executive Director of the Armed Forces Chaplains Board in the Pentagon. He retired after 30 years of active duty in 2008 following his final assignment as the 10th Air Base Wing Chaplain at the USAF Academy. Rick and Gretchen currently live in Colorado Springs.
Since retirement from the military, he has been serving as an Interim preaching pastor since 2009 in four churches in CO. (1st EFCA , Northview EFCA, in Colo Sprgs, Fox Meadow (now Castle Rock), Monument; Grace in Pagosa, Pagosa Springs). Rick began his Interim Preaching Pastoral role at Whispering Pines in June, 2016.
Rick and Gretchen have three married children and three grand children who reside in Colorado and Ecuador.
